Eurocinema or Euroepan cinema is more popular now then it has ever been. Certain European Movies have achieved great success abroad. Also a few Directors have managed to rank among the most popular filmmakers of Hollywood.

It is often said that Euroepan Cinema can perhaps not keep it with the quantity of Hollywood, but that i can easily compete with the quality of the films. And indeed, some amazing European Movies have been crafted. .

A beautiful inspiring Italian movie directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. Besides being the best Italian Movie, it is also the very best European Movie according to Europeanmovies.org. It is about an Italian filmmaker who looks back on his past spending his days at the local movie theatre. In 1990 it deservedly received the Oscar for best Foreign Language film.

Das Leben der Anderen is in our opinion one of the greatest arthouse movies of the last decades. A stunning Cinematography, an impressive storyline and strong acting. It is about an officer of the secret police of Eastern Germany. he is an expert spy.

When he gets the task to observe and spay on a German writer he soon discovers something is not quite right.

Das Leben der Anderen received its deserved amount of appreciation in the world. It won an oscar, a golden globe and a BAFTA award.

Danish Cinema's best film: Festen (1998)

Festen is a Danish Classic. Without a doubt the very best film of Denmark. It is directed by filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg. He filmed it by applying the famous Dogma 95 style (handheld camera) .

The film deals with a wealthy Danish family coming together for the birthday of the their father and grandfather. His son is planning to let everyone know that his dad is not so great as they think he is. Some dark sectrets are being shared.

A movie by great French Filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, Un long dimanche de fiançailles ) Amelie was the turning point int he career of Audrey Tautou. Later we could see her in the Hollywood film Angels and Demons. Amelie is a very original movie and touching movie. Besides that it really has an amazing soundtrack.

Swedish Cinema's best film: Fanny och Alexander (1982)

Ingmar Bergman has made some many incredible Movies. He remains the face of Swedish Cinema. I have chosen one of his more recent works. Let me present Fanny Och Alexander. An all time classic.

Its about a three Swedish children losing their father, and having to move in with another man.

Fanny Och Alexander is rewarded 4 oscars. One of them goes to Ingmar Bergman for best Director.

Spanish Cinema's best film: El Laberinto Del Fauna

El Laberinto del Fauna or Pan's Labyrinth tells the fantastic story of a young girl. She is the daughter of a Fascis army officer who is in charge of leading a camp. To escape from the awful reality of her life she loses herself in the world of her imagination. Truly one of the greatest Spanish Movies. Once again proving that Spain has some of the best Directors in the world . Another great accomplishment by Guillermo del torro.

El Laberinto del Fauno recevied an impressive amount of three Oscars.

Dutch Cinema's best film: Zwartboek (2005)

A great war movie by Dutch Director Paul Verhoeven. He also had had successes in Hollywood with for instance Basic Instinct.. A very good war drama follwing young jewish girl who loses her parents in the Second World War. In order to get revenge and help the good cause she starts workign for the underground Dutch resistance. Her taks is infiltrating the SS by starting a relationship with a high ranking German SS officer.

The movie is very popular in Holland, It also gave way to a few international carreers for some of its actors. For instance, Carice van Houten can now be seen in the HBO series Game of Thrones.
